FAQ's

  • Which countertop material should I pick?

We do not push a specific brand or material but will recommend certain products based on their application and your design goals. Here are some factors to consider:

    • Is the countertop inside or outside (grill)?
    • Will the material be in a continuously wet location?
    • Are you ok with doing periodic maintenance of the countertop or want something that is maintenance free?
    • Do you want something that is easier to repair if damage does occur expecially in High Traffic areas?
    • Do you want something that feels warmer to the touch?
    • What type of surface texture do you want? (Polished, Matte, Leathered)
  • What is the difference between Quartz and Quartzite?

    • Quartz is an Engineered/Manufactured product which is a mixture of Quartz, Other Minerals, pigments, and polymer binders.  Another name for Quartz is “Engineered Stone”
    • Quartzite is a quarried stone with a high quartz crystal content.  These are known to be much harder than other types of natural stones.

  • Why should I still consider solid surface countertops?

    • The main reason to pick solid surface countertops is because of it’s ease to clean.  These countertops have the option to have integral (or cove) splashes as well as integral sinks. This means that there is no caulk line in between the splash and in between the countertop and sink.  Because of this, it is great for laundry, mud rooms or dog washes.
    • Solid surface also feels warmer to the touch.  This is a great option for custom office desks where arms are in contact with the surface for a long period.
    • Because this material comes in a thinner thicknesses it is perfect and sometimes the only option for window sills.
    • Many new designs have come out recently that better resembles quartz or stone.
    • Chips, cracks, and scratches are generally much easier to repair than other materials.

  • Are Porcelain Countertops the same as Tile countertops?

No, Our Porcelain Countertops are made from a large slab of material and are not comprised of individual tiles.  This means that there are no grout-lines.  Other names for this material are “ultra-compact surfaces”

  • What is your lead time?

There are many factors that contribute to the lead time including complexity of job and availability of material. We recommend the below steps in order to speed up the fabrication process after templating your job.

    • Bring us into your building process early so that we can get the material color, sink and faucet selected before we template.  This ensures that we can put material on hold and order any additional hardware early and are not waiting on material being delivered to our shop.
    • If you are not ordering sinks through us please have sinks and faucets on the jobsite at time of measure/template so we can double check their dimensions and ensure these are not damaged.
    • If you have new cabinets make sure that these are fully installed and in-plane/level at time of measure.  Stone does not flex like laminate or solid surface and needs to set on a level base as to not crack in the future. Our project managers may recommend corrections that need to be made prior to us installing the stone.
    • All countertop material has support/overhang requirements.  When coordinating with us during the bid process please provide photos of the jobsite or an accurate sketch of your cabinet layout so that we can ensure the countertop will be properly supported.

  • Will there be a seam in my countertop?

    • This all depends on the size of your countertop.  Most material from a factory or quarry maxes out at 65” tall by 130” long (but can be smaller). Because of this anything longer/taller than these dimensions will need a seam.
    • This also depends on the access into your home or jobsite.  If for example there is a sharp turn, tight stairway, or elevator into the jobsite we may need to add a seam to even get the countertops into the building.
    • We always work with you to explain seam locations and expectations.
  • Will the seam be noticeable?

    • We pride ourselves on the quality of our seams, which are far beyond industry standards.  In general seams are not invisable but minimally noticable.  How noticable depends on the material.
    • Generally, the more complex or veined the material is the more the seam will show, however seams can also become a design element.
    • We try hard to put seams away from high visibility parts of the countertop but are sometimes limited by material sizes, geometry of your countertop or access into the jobsite.
  • Do you connect or disconnect the plumbing or electrical?

    • We unfortunately are not licensed plumbers and require the customer/contractor to coordinate the disconnection/connection of the plumbing.  This ensures that we do not come across plumbing issues (like broken valves) on the day of install.
    • We also cannot disconnect outlets or remove any electrical components.  Please get in contact with your electrician if anything needs replaced or fixed.
  • Can you tear out my old countertop?

Yes, we do offer a tearout and haul-away service of your old countertop. This option reduces the “down-time” of your countertop and eliminates the hassle of disposal.

  • Do you install backsplash?

If you go with a groutless quartz, stone or solid surface backsplash we do install those.  We unfortunately do not install tile or other types of back splash.
